Finding Your Happy Weight

A happy weight has nothing to do with numbers. It is a feeling,  a sense of confidence, strength and energy that comes from within.

As women, we spend a lot of time trying to get to an ideal number, but what if we threw that concept out the window? Just think of how much time would be saved.

Instead, I like to focus on five, easy to remember tools that help me achieve and maintain my happy weight:

1. Move

This is a daily non-negotiable, and doesn’t need to be as intense as you may think! I love running and swimming but a nice brisk walk also does so much good for the body. Just move in some way every day, you can even make it social by asking friends and family to join.

2. Water

You should be drinking ½ your weight in ounces of water a day. This means if you weigh 120 lbs you need to drink 60 ounces of water daily. Include additional water for exercise, travel or warm weather.

3. Avoid Sugar

Ready for a crazy fact? The average American consumes 17 tsp of sugar a day. By avoiding products with added sugar and consuming whole foods, your body will begin to crave these healthy options regularly.

4. Eat Carbs

Carbs have a bad reputation, but it is time to let go of this misinformation. Stay away from the ‘white carbs’ which raise your blood sugar and instead fuel your body with smart carbs such as sweet potatoes, quinoa, oats, and bananas.

5.Vegetables

The shining star in your diet. I recommend bringing in a serving of veggies into every meal. A few ideas: sauteed spinach in your morning eggs, a big green salad and roasted vegetables with dinner.
